Question: Who is my child’s Administrator?
Students with the last name beginning A-D – Mrs. Byrd

Question: Who is my child’s Guidance Counselor?

Question: Who do I make my lunch check to?
Please make your lunch check payable to Prince William County Food Service (or PWCFS) and have your student give it to the cafeteria staff when they go through the lunch service line.
Question: Can you give a message to my child to call me between classes?
We cannot interrupt class instruction for anything other than a true emergency, and the person calling in with the message must be listed on the student's emergency card.
Question: How do I report an address and/or phone number change?
Parents/Guardians can log in to Edulink and make changes online.
Question: What do I do if my child is absent from school?
Parents should call 703-580-4238 to report their child’s absence from school. These phone calls are only accepted on the day of the absence. If a phone call is not received by the attendance office on the day of the absence, then a note is required within two days of returning to school stating the reason for the absence. The note must be signed and dated by the parent/guardian with a daytime phone number. Notes are to be submitted to the Attendance Office (on B street). Emails will no longer be accepted to excuse absences.
Question: What do I do if my child is unexcused tardy to school?

If a student arrives unexcused tardy to school after 7:30am, they must report to the main/front office and obtain a tardy pass.

Question: What do I do if my child is excused tardy to school?
Parents should call 703-580-4238 to excuse their child's tardiness to school. These phone calls are only accepted on the day of the tardy. If a phone call is not received by the attendance office on the day of the tardy, then a note is required within two days of returning to school stating the reason for the tardy. The note must be signed and dated by the parent/guardian with a daytime phone number. Notes are to be submitted to the Attendance Office (on B street). Emails will no longer be accepted to excuse tardies.
Question: What do I do if my child needs to leave school early?
Student requests for early dismissal must be given to the Attendance Office (on B street). The request must include reason for leaving, the time of dismissal, and the parent/guardian signature including for verification a daytime phone number for verification. An early dismissal pass is written only after verbal confirmation is received from a parent or emergency contact designee. Emails will no longer be accepted for early dismissal.
Question: How do I get missed work when my child is out sick?
Parents and students are encouraged to check the classroom webpages for all current assignments. When your child is out for three consecutive school days, please call your child’s Administrator and request homework. Your child’s teachers will be notified and work will be available in the front office 24 hours later.
Question: What happens if a student becomes ill while is school?
Students who become ill during school need to obtain a pass from their teacher to report to the clinic. After contacting the parent, an early dismissal will be granted.
Question: What is the CareerCenter?
Ms. Jenkins is our Career Counselor and runs the Career Center, which is located in Guidance. The Career Center is designed to provide students with information that will assist students in planning for the future (college, military programs, financial aid, scholarship information, etc.)
Question: Does the school provide an after-school tutoring program?
The National Honor Society provides tutoring a couple days a week in the library after school. Students who would like tutoring should sign up in advance with a Librarian
Question:  Does Hylton sponsor Senior Skips days?
There is no such thing as a senior skip day. If a high school student skips school, they are disciplined according to the PWCS discipline policy.
Question: Can my student ride a different bus home from school for activities unrelated to school?
If a student needs to ride a different bus home they may bring a note from their parent to their alpha Administrator before school. The note should contain the student’s name, their parent’s name and phone number, the name of the person they wish to go home with, the date they will be riding the bus, and the bus number. The note will be verified with the parent and permission granted on a case-by-case basis. 
Question: Can my student take their exams early if my vacation plans conflict with the exam schedule?
Exams cannot be taken early. We allow for exams to be made up during the Summer. Arrangements must be made in advance through your child's Administrator.
